Looking Forward: Manchester 2035 and Imagine2035

Manchester 2035

Manchester 2035 is a framework for the future, setting the University’s ambitions for 2035.

Foundations

From Manchester for the world, 2035
Manchester 2035

It is built on five 'Foundations', giving our ambition context and meaning. These are the core commitments that must be true in any future.

  1. Committed to outstanding teaching and research
  2. Values-led and socially responsible
  3. Of Manchester and for the world
  4. Organised for success: one university
  5. A place where you matter

Leaps

Manchester 2035 'Leaps' are the driving force to go further and faster, setting a new trajectory for the kind of university our future demands.

Towards Imagine2035

Our goal for Imagine2035 is to create a vision that aligns with and supports Manchester 2035. Library Management Group initial discussions identified key themes that will help shape our future:

  • Our Library: Continuing our commitment to transforming spaces and services, with the Main Library redevelopment remaining a top priority while we adapt to changing student expectations and learning styles
  • Digital Innovation: Building on our strong digital foundations while distinguishing our unique Library expertise from broader IT provision and thoughtfully integrating AI and emerging technologies
  • National Leadership: Maximising our National Research Library status and strengthening partnerships that advance research and scholarship
  • Collections Excellence: Celebrating and developing our vast modern and special collections that contribute so significantly to research, learning and our public roles
