Spaces emergency

Reporting a threat to Life / Buildings / Collections

A spaces emergency is a problem affecting an entire building, area or something that causes immediate and serious risk.

Please take the time to familiarise yourself with the following actions and information.

  • FIRE. Activate the alarm (if not already sounding) then call 999 to summon the Fire Brigade. Follow our Emergency Evacuation Procedures for the building you are in.
  • FLOOD. Phone the Estates Help Desk on 0161 275 2424 for an urgent request of ‘00’ (same day callout for engineers) and notify your manager immediately (or another suitable member of staff e.g. a member of the Library Executive Team)
  • OTHER immediate spaces concerns (e.g. structural building damage, electrical hazards etc) Phone the Estates Help Desk on 0161 275 2424 for an urgent request of ‘00’ (same day callout for engineers) and notify your manager immediately.

For Out-of-Hours Estates requests please call Security on 0161 306 9966.

Please also keep Finn Hobin (Acting Library Spaces Coordinator) informed of any emergencies.

For reporting less urgent spaces issues (requesting repairs / maintenance) please use the Report a Spaces Issue page.

For other Health and Safety related topics (e.g. First Aid, Accidents, Workstation Assessments and Risk Assessments) please see our Library Health and Safety Page and the Health and Safety document folder in SharePoint.
