Fabienne Johnson

Winner - Newcomer of the Year

Fabienne Johnson

This award gives us an opportunity to recognise someone who has been in their role less than 18 months but has already made a positive impact.

Fabienne (appropriately known as ‘Fab’) joined the Residences administration team in 2021 and ‘came in with a bang’, consistently going over and above expectations even while still learning the role.  Her team says she has a smile and an attention to detail for every student query and can be relied upon to given well-researched answers to any question. Fab actively seeks out information or help from other teams when she needs it, and shows consistent commitment to problem resolution and a positive, cheerful attitude even during changes to where she works and who she reports to. She is a great example of ‘one team’ working and always puts students first.

How do you feel about winning a DOCA?

I’m honoured to receive a DOCA. It’s nice to be recognised for the work I do. In a big organisation like the University it’s easy to feel like a small cog in a big machine but everyone’s role adds something important and if nothing else, this has reminded me of that!

What did you enjoy about the ceremony?

It was lovely to see colleagues from Sport who I used to work with and it was interesting to see what other areas within the DSE are doing. I like to be nosey about what other departments do, so I always enjoy the time before and after to mingle and chat to staff from other areas, to see how we might be able to collaborate across different teams.

What is enjoyable or meaningful for you about being part of the Directorate for the Student Experience?

As a graduate of the University, I am keen to ensure that current students enjoy their time here as much as I did! We are fortunate that in our day-to-day work we can directly support students, and that in itself is massively rewarding.
