Johnny Dixon, Employability Executive in the Careers Service, tells us how he uses LinkedIn Learning.

How did you get started with LinkedIn Learning?

I signed up to LinkedIn Learning after attending a LinkedIn Learning pilot launch run by the DSE. I had just started a new role and I thought LinkedIn Learning would be a great way to brush up on the skills required for my role.

How do you choose what to study?

I looked for courses that were applicable to my new role. I found Power BI Training and Premiere Pro CC particularly useful as they give you example data to practice with.

How do you manage your LinkedIn Learning studies?

With approval from my line manager, I block some time out in my calendar and close my emails so that I don’t get distracted. I treat it as if I am attending a training session and I give it 100% of my focus.

Any tips for users getting started?

LinkedIn Learning has thousands of courses so it’s best to know what you’re looking for. My tip is to go into LinkedIn Learning with a plan. Think about what you want to learn and search for the name of that skill.
