Research Information Systems

Researchfish is an online submission system, which many funders (including the UK Research Councils, Arthritis Research UK, Cancer Research UK, and NIHR) use to collect and evaluate the outputs and outcomes of your research projects.

PIs on active Research Council grants and Research Council Funded students are required to report to Researchfish annually. You can log into the Researchfish submission system and record outcomes at any time throughout the year, but can only ‘submit’ your return during the submission period. You can find details of the next submission window on the UKRI Research Outcomes page.

Click here to find out our Pure can help you to complete your Research Fish submission.

Oracle Discoverer (research business area)

The Research business area holds information from the RMS (Research Management System), as well as data from two legacy research systems: the RAD (Victoria University of Manchester), and Agresso (UMIST).

Oracle Discoverer Viewer allows users to view and interrogate data held in the University’s Data Warehouse. The Data Warehouse holds information from five business areas (Research, Finance, HR and Payroll, Admissions and Student Marketing, Student Records).

Discoverer is not a 'live' interactive database. The data is extracted and updated from the Data Warehouse overnight.

Discoverer has reporting and statistical functionality, with the ability to calculate percentages and totals as well as displaying 'page items' and cross tabs (pivot table) reports. Standard reports are written by the Research Operations Team ( and shared with users to simplify the process of running reports.
