Professor Richard Curry appointed AVP for Research and Innovation

08 Jul 2025

Professor Curry takes up the role of Associate Vice-President (AVP) from 1 August 2025.

Richard takes over the role from Professor Nigel Hooper, who will retire this year.

He is the principal investigator of a portfolio of several research grants, including the EPSRC Programme Grant 'Nanoscale Advanced Materials Engineering', and maintains a strong set of national and international collaborations and contributes to policy discussion around the areas of advanced materials, semiconductors and quantum technologies.

Richard joins the team led by Professor Colette Fagan, Vice-President for Research. His responsibilities will be similar to those which Nigel has successfully led, adjusted in emphasis as we prepare for the delivery of the M2035 strategy.

“I am delighted to welcome Richard to his new role in my team,” Colette commented.

“Richard will have particular responsibility for our portfolio of research institutes, new strategic areas of research investment, and accelerating research excellence into research impact.

“As we start the handover, I am grateful for the excellent leadership and energy that Nigel gave in this role, which provides the springboard for Richard’s work in the next stage of our strategy.”
