Discover innovative practices in community-engaged research from around the world
01 Jul 2025
Join our webinar on Wednesday, 9 July and visit our new Engaged Research Hub, part of our research culture and environment here at Manchester.
More researchers are choosing to partner with, and involve, communities in their work by co-producing and co-designing approaches to address real-world challenges.
Here at Manchester, we support participatory research with a range of information, guidance and offers, all captured in our new Engaged Research Hub.
In addition, the University Social Responsibility Network is running a webinar, Social Responsibility in Research: Co-producing a better future to highlight how participatory research methods can ensure research benefits society, empowers communities and drives meaningful change.
It will explore how the core research function at universities can advance social responsibility by showcasing examples of innovative practices in community-engaged and participatory research from around the world.

Research culture and environment
Enabling open and impactful research is one of the four themes of our research culture and environment campaign, which aims to ensure that our work has a positive impact on all those involved.
The hub, created by our Research Impact Team, includes an overview of ongoing work to improve support for engaged research practices at our University, links to resources, details about related projects, and a series of case study films.
It is the first outcome from a programme of work the team began in Summer 2023, which aimed to build a picture of the participatory research ecosystem here at Manchester, so we could enhance and improve the support we provide.
The Hub is just a starting point – over the next five years and beyond we will be working together across the University to build capacity for engaged research, create opportunities for shared learning, and cultivate more sustainable and reciprocal relationships with those we research with.
