Your essential round up of research security support

02 Nov 2026

Our Research Security Hub has a new page, bringing together training, guidance and practical examples to help you identify and manage risks, understand your responsibilities and embed Trusted Research principals throughout the research lifecycle.

Our Research Security Hub has a new page, bringing together training, guidance and practical examples to help colleagues identify and manage risks associated with collaborative research.

Whether you are developing a new collaboration or managing an existing project, these resources will help you understand your responsibilities and embed Trusted Research principles throughout the research lifecycle.

This includes courses such as the mandatory Data Protection & Cyber Security course and Export Controls training that is critical for understanding and complying with regulations.

There's a link to the Research Risk Profiler – a 15-minute questionnaire to identify project-specific challenges and signpost to University resources and support.

And we have UK government resources such as the Knowledge Asset Management (KAM) Hub to help you identify, protect and commercialise your intellectual property, National Protective Security Authority information videos and Cabinet Office Trusted Research for Academia Guidance.

Vice President for Social Responsibility and Chair of Research Compliance Committee and Research Relationships Oversight Group, Professor Nalin Thakkar explains: “Our research thrives on openness, academic freedom and international collaboration. These are fundamental strengths of our University, and it is important that we protect them.

“In an increasingly complex global environment, understanding and managing research security risks is essential to safeguarding the integrity of our research, protecting our colleagues and partnerships, and enabling us to collaborate confidently and responsibly.

“These resources are designed to provide practical guidance and support, helping colleagues navigate potential risks without creating unnecessary barriers to research. I would encourage everyone involved in research to make use of them.”
