Writing for The Conversation

05 Oct 2026

Share your research with a wider audience – new training sessions are now available.

More than 470 of our academics have written for The Conversation, an independent, not-for-profit news organisation, on topical issues.

Here are our most popular articles and details on how to sign up for our new weekly online training:

Why write for The Conversation?

Publishing with The Conversation can help your research reach audiences beyond academia, including policymakers, practitioners, journalists and the wider public.

With editions and republication partners around the world, articles can achieve significant national and international reach, helping Manchester researchers share their expertise with global audiences. Researchers have used articles to support engagement activity, generate media coverage, inform policy discussions and build new professional connections.

As one University researcher reflected: "My co-writing of an article led to an invitation to participate in a policy dialogue, which was an important opportunity to translate my research into policy discussions and inform decision-making processes related to shared river management in South Asia."

If you're interested in learning how to write for The Conversation, register for one of the new 60-minute online training sessions. Each session is followed by a Q&A, covering how to communicate research expertise and successfully pitch article ideas.

How to join a session

The Conversation will hold Zoom sessions twice weekly: every Wednesday at 2pm, and on alternating Tuesdays and Thursdays (morning and afternoon). Choose your preferred day and time, register using the relevant link, and the joining details will be sent to you by email.

You will still be able to attend these sessions after the University ends its Zoom licence at the end of 2026.

Registration links (below) are the same for every week’s sessions:
