From Source to Policy: A Working Summit on Fashion's Waste Crisis

08 Jun 2026

A one-day event for researchers, policymakers, industry leaders and community groups – open to colleagues across disciplines on Wednesday, 17 June.

Our University’s Department of Materials is hosting a one-day working summit in partnership with The Or Foundation, the Ghana-based research and advocacy organisation that has brought global attention to the environmental and human impact of post-consumer clothing waste in Accra, Ghana.

The summit brings together researchers, policymakers, industry leaders and community groups to address the global textile and fashion waste crisis, with a focus on developing globally accountable Extended Producer Responsibility (EPR) frameworks.

The programme includes a keynote address by The Or Foundation and interactive discussions on eco-design, decolonising policy and legislation, global EPR/ESPR, and product end-of-life strategies.

This summit – on Wednesday, 17 June in the Nancy Rothwell Building – is open to colleagues across disciplines and offers an opportunity to engage directly with frontline practitioners working at the intersection of waste colonialism, trade policy and circular textile systems.
