Research security awards – nominate now
06 May 2026
The HERSA Awards 2026 celebrate outstanding contribution, leadership and excellence in Research Security across the higher education sector – nominate by Wednesday, 13 May or volunteer as a judge.
The UK Higher Education Research Security Association (HERSA) has launched its first ever awards to recognise and celebrate outstanding contribution, leadership and excellence in Research Security across the higher education sector.
HERSA – formed by research security professionals at some of the UK’s leading research-intensive universities – represents the collective practitioner voice of the UK HE research security community, providing a forum for engagement, shared expertise and strategic dialogue with HMG, industry and international partners.
Formerly the Higher Education Export Control Association (HEECA), it was initially established to develop and promote best practice in Export Control compliance. Today, its work spans the broader research and economic security agenda, reflecting the dynamic, complex and ever-changing landscape of UK national security.
The HERSA Awards will shine a light on individuals and teams who demonstrate exceptional impact, dedication and leadership within HERSA member institutions.
Full details of the award categories, eligibility criteria and the nomination process are available at:
Nominations are now open and must be submitted by 5pm on Wednesday, 13 May. Each institution may submit one nomination per category, with nominees' consent required.
Call for Volunteer Judges
HERSA is also inviting expressions of interest from colleagues who would be willing to serve on the HERSA Awards judging panel. Judges will be part of a sector-led panel, overseen by the HERSA Secretariat, and will play a key role in reviewing and assessing nominations.
This is an excellent opportunity to contribute to the HERSA community and support the recognition of excellence across the sector. The time commitment will depend on the number of nominations received; however, judges should allow approximately two hours, with the possibility of this extending to up to six hours. The judging meeting will be conducted online.
If you are interested in volunteering as a judge, please contact us at: enquiries@hersa.co.uk.
