Research and Impact @ Manchester (Winter 2024)

A message from Professor Colette Fagan, Vice-President for Research
Dear colleagues,
Our Research and Impact @ Manchester newsletter is in a new format so that all the research-related updates and celebrations you need go direct to your inbox.
We continue to post time sensitive information and updates in our RBE news feed and StaffNet News, so please check these out on a regular basis.
Each edition highlights the most newsworthy celebrations and important updates for our research community.
In this, our Bicentenary year, we have a lot to celebrate – as we always do!
- Our impact on the city-region and beyond has been evidenced in an evaluation of REF2021 impact case studies.
- A new Investment Zone for Greater Manchester is expected to create 32,000 jobs, leverage £1.1 billion of private sector investment and support research and innovation.
- We welcome Professor Lou Cordwell as Professor of Innovation and Special Advisor to the Office of the President and Vice-Chancellor.
- We are only one of five universities in the UK and 20 worldwide to be awarded United Nations Environment Programme (UNEP) accreditation, thanks to the work of Professor Michael Shaver, our Director of Sustainable Futures.
- We’ve celebrated the official launch of the Christabel Pankhurst Institute for Health Technology Research and Innovation.
- A new fundraising appeal is making a difference to our research efforts.
- And three of our professors were among those recognised in the King’s 2024 New Year Honours List.
Finally, we also have some wonderful resources from our well-received Research Comms Conference. Take a look for ways to turbocharge your profile and celebrate the work you do and its impact on our world.
We’re here to help you do that so please get in touch if you have anything for this newsletter or if you have any feedback.
Colette
