REF 2021 announcement - excellent outcomes across FSE

12 May 2022

A message from the Dean and Richard Curry, Vice Dean for Research

Dear All,

Following this morning’s release of the REF results we would like to congratulate all staff and researchers across the Faculty most warmly on an excellent outcome. The past few years have been really very difficult for everyone, and it is re-assuring and gratifying to have such positive news at this time. You have done an outstanding job. Well done!

Every unit of assessment has highlights for us to celebrate, and the results demonstrate clearly that our Faculty is providing one of the best environments within the UK in which to deliver world-leading research.

Many people have been involved on the long road to this point, and we would especially like to thank Wendy Flavell, who led our Faculty Unit of Assessment (UoA) submissions as Vice-Dean for Research at the time, supported by all those who acted as UoA leads, and as impact, output and environment champions.  Huge congratulations go to all of our PhD and postdoctoral researchers and academic staff from whose work our submission was built. This was a team effort, and we fully recognise and sincerely thank our PS and technical staff who provided critical and vital support, not only to the research but also to the REF submission itself. We also give particular thanks to Ann Fretwell, who has now re-joined us having been on secondment to REF Panels.

Many congratulations again to everyone! We look forward to seeing all of you continue to shape the world around us through the outstanding science and engineering that we deliver.

With all very best wishes,

Richard and Martin

Martin Schröder, Vice President and Dean of the Faculty of Science and Engineering

Richard Curry, Vice Dean for Research, Faculty of Science and Engineering
