University Research Ethics Committee (UREC)

We are often looking to recruit members of staff to our central research ethics committees, known as the University Research Ethics Committee (UREC).

The URECs review research from all areas of UoM and from both staff and students. Each full UREC meets 10 times a year (currently online only), approximately every 4-5 weeks, though no meetings are held in August.

Members of the full URECs also serve on the Proportionate UREC, which operates a monthly rota throughout the year with members typically serving on this committee twice a year. This committee operates entirely digitally, with no meetings to attend, and reviews applications throughout the year. When serving on the Proportionate rota you do not need to attend your full UREC's meeting that month or read their papers.

If you are interested in joining the UREC please ensure you have your line manager’s support to commit approximately one working day per month for an initial period of 3 years. Please then contact the Research Governance, Ethics and Integrity Office to confirm your expression of interest and request further information.
