New export licence reference for controlled exports
22 Jul 2026
Colleagues are advised to follow new guidelines – plus further information and support on our Research Security Hub.
The Export Control Joint Unit (ECJU) has introduced a new Dual-Use Open General Export Licence (OGEL).
The new licence, which came into force on 25 June 2026, consolidates two previous OGELs into one and expands the range of permitted destinations.
The University has registered for the new licence.
Colleagues are advised to stop using the OGEL reference numbers GBOGE2020/02128 and BOGE2019/00214.
You can continue to use all other OGEL reference numbers.
Please ensure you use the University's new OGEL reference number for all future exports if you are using one of the two amended OGEL references. This is: GBOGE2026/00976.
Your responsibilities
When exporting under an OGEL, please remember to:
- Notify the RCTeam using Notification of Controlled Export Under a Licence form after each export.
- Include the appropriate export statement in documentation, emails, reports or presentations, or in the shipping documentation as applicable to your export.
- For physical goods exports to the EU, retain a copy of the Single Administrative Document (SAD) form and send to the RCTeam for review.
