Welcoming students through Confirmation and Clearing 2025
14 Aug 2025
As Confirmation and Clearing gets underway, our University community is once again coming together to support thousands of prospective students at a pivotal moment in their lives.

A core team of nearly 200 staff and volunteers from across the University, based in the Nancy Rothwell Building, are answering calls and guiding applicants through their options, working hand-in-hand with colleagues in Faculties and Schools to help students find the right path.
Over the course of the week, the team will respond to more than 10,000 calls, with today – results day – being the busiest. By 2pm today, more than 5,350 calls had already been answered, with staff offering calm, friendly advice and reassurance to students and their families. Thanks to the increased number of staff taking calls today, wait times have remained low, with the queue averaging just four minutes this morning.
This year, we’ve seen strong interest across a wide range of courses, and our teams are ready to speak with enthusiastic applicants as well as those who may be feeling uncertain or disappointed. Every conversation matters, and our call handlers are committed to making each one supportive and encouraging.
Behind the scenes, colleagues across Admissions and ITS have worked to ensure systems are running smoothly and that students receive timely, accurate information. Their efforts have helped create a welcoming and responsive experience for all.
Professor Jenn Hallam, Vice-President for Teaching, Learning and Students, says: “Confirmation and Clearing is a moment filled with possibility. For some, it’s the culmination of years of hard work; for others, it’s a chance to explore new opportunities.
“I’m incredibly proud of the warmth and dedication shown by our staff. Whether students are celebrating or seeking guidance, we’re here to listen, support and help them take the next step. Manchester is a place where ambition thrives, and we’re excited to welcome our newest students into a vibrant, caring community.”
Courses available at the start of the process, from 8am on Thursday 14 August, were listed on our website. Many have already closed due to high demand from excellent applicants, including Accounting, Chemistry, Civil Engineering, Fashion, Biosciences Foundation and Mental Health Nursing - reflecting the continued strength of Manchester as a top choice for students.
To everyone involved – thank you for your energy, empathy and commitment. And to all students joining us this year: congratulations and welcome to Manchester!
