Payroll giving, discounts and benefits

08 Dec 2022

Celebrating your fantastic giving, how to save money at a challenging time, get fit with Be Active and how to send a festive eCard

Save money day to day

To save the pounds on your everyday shopping do explore your staff discounts.  The Vivup discounts page has been updated to make it easier to find discounts.

As well as the popular high street discounts enabling you to save on gifts, travel and household costs you can save with leading supermarkets and stores with their eVouchers. Current savings include:

  • John Lewis / Tesco / ASDA / Iceland / FarmFoods - 4%
  • Sainsbury/ The Entertainer - 5%
  • Morrisons - 6% (throughout December)
  • Marks & Spencer - 7%
  • Ocado (discounts off online shopping for 3 months)

This is a financially challenging time of year in normal circumstances, let alone the current crisis. If you are experiencing any financial issues or any stress at this time, don’t forget there is the free 24 confidential helpline that can also provide support all year round.

Payroll Giving

The cost of living crisis is also impacting on funding to charities. However, University staff are still giving incredible amounts to their favourite causes via our payroll giving scheme. In the 12 months to October 2022 you gave £132,964.62 to local, national and global causes. If you want to be able to better support your favourite causes a monthly gift of £10 from your take-home pay to your chosen charity will be automatically boosted to £12.50 for a 20% rate tax payer and £16.66 for a 40% rate tax payer via our payroll giving scheme. This means your charity receives your donation, but also the amount that you’d normally pay in tax at no extra cost to you. Giving this way helps your charity receive regular financial support and helps smaller charities in particular, as many do not have the resource to claim back Gift Aid. A video of thanks from the local Booth Centre is below!
