A Place Where You Matter: our new EDI Framework

03 Nov 2026

We all have a part to play

We’ve now launched our new Equity, Diversity and Inclusion (EDI) Framework, setting out how we’ll deliver Manchester 2035 in a way that’s fair, inclusive and genuinely shaped by, and for, the people who make up our university.

Why this matters now

Our previous EDI Strategy has now come to an end, and Manchester 2035 gives us both ambition and a clear opportunity to rethink how we approach inclusion. As Executive Director of EDI Sarah Fox sets out in her latest Viewpoint blog, this moment marks a deliberate shift from ‘doing EDI’ through standalone initiatives to becoming an inclusive university by design.

Whatever your role here; whether you’re recruiting a colleague, supervising a student, conducting research, building partnerships or shaping services, EDI should be embedded in everything we do, from the outset, rather than treated as an add-on or an additional responsibility.

Join the conversation and understand what it means for you

The framework has been shaped by a year of evidence gathering, consultation and honest discussion with colleagues, students, and industry experts. We’ll be continuing the conversation at our next colleague townhall, on Monday 16 November, 10.30 – 11.30am, with President Duncan Ivison and a panel of colleagues.
