Changes to Canvas login
07 Sep 2026
Changes to The University of Manchester (UoM) Canvas login page are coming to staff, students, and external users on Tuesday, 15 September 2026.
What's changing?
The way staff, students, and external users log in to Canvas, our University’s central learning environment, will look different. From 15 September you will be prompted to choose whether to log in as a ‘UoM user’ or as an ‘External user’.
‘UoM users’ are staff, students, and researchers who have a UoM IT account and email address, while External users are individuals enrolled on a Canvas course who do not have a UoM IT account and email address.
From Tuesday 15 September, attempting to log into Canvas (canvas.manchester.ac.uk) or using a course-specific URL will take you to the new login page. Staff, students, and researchers with UoM accounts should select the ’UoM users‘ login option, as shown in the Knowledge Article linked below.
Why is it changing?
The change is being made to allow for a more seamless login experience into Canvas for internal and external users.
What do you need to do?
From Tuesday 15 September, please make sure you are selecting the ’UoM users‘ login option when logging in to Canvas. We recommend reviewing the Knowledge Article linked above so that you know what to expect.
Help and support
