Mark Rollinson to retire as Deputy Secretary, with Laura Winn appointed

Mark Rollinson will retire from his position later this year with Laura Winn joining on 3 August.

Mark Rollinson will retire as Deputy Secretary at the end of August after nine years at the University, with Laura Winn appointed to take up the role from 3 August.

As a member of the Professional Services Leadership Team and the wider University community, Mark has played an important role in supporting the development of our new strategy. He worked closely with the Board and senior leaders to make sure there was strong governance oversight and clear decision-making throughout the process.

During his nine years at the University, Mark has played a central role in improving how the University is governed. He has led the Governance Office through a period of significant reform, strengthened the way decisions are made across the institution and helped maintain clear governance during major challenges, including the COVID-19 pandemic.

As Deputy Secretary, he has overseen governance support for the Board, Senate, Audit and Risk Committee and other key committees. He has also led governance reviews, supported governor development and helped improve the effectiveness of the Board and its committees.

Mark has also played a key role in reviewing and updating the University’s Statutes and Ordinances, working with Senate, General Assembly, the Board and Privy Council processes. More recently, he has helped streamline governance arrangements and executive committee structures to support more effective decision-making.

He has also led important regulatory and compliance work, including the University’s relationship with the Office for Students and governance-related regulatory matters. This has included supporting the University’s response to new requirements, such as freedom of speech legislation and related policies.

Laura will join on 3 August, allowing time for a handover before Mark retires at the end of August.

Laura is currently General Counsel and Company Secretary at the Ellen MacArthur Foundation, where she advises the board, leads on board development and supports effective decision-making.

She brings a strong governance background, with previous roles at Imperial College London and WWF-UK, where she worked closely with senior teams on governance, policy development, major gifts, risk and regulatory compliance.
