Who should we call in an emergency?

Review and update your emergency contact details in MyView by Friday, 31 July

Only 34% of colleagues have emergency contact details recorded in MyView. This means that, in too many cases, we may not be able to contact the right person when it matters most.

We hope we never need to use your emergency contact details. However, if the unexpected happens, we want to be confident that we can reach the right person quickly and provide the support needed. 

How to check your information  

All colleagues

  • Log into MyView and go to My Emergency Details 
  • Add/review your Emergency Contact – this should be someone who could act on your behalf or support you in an unexpected situation.

Substantive colleagues only (colleagues on a permanent or fixed-term contract)

  • Add/review your Next of Kin - Your next of kin is your closest living relative. This may differ from your emergency contact—for example, a parent who doesn’t live with you. Your Next of Kin will not automatically receive your Death in Service benefit.
  • Add/review your Death in Service recipient - the University provides a benefit of four months' salary (taxed at a marginal rate) to support loved ones in making arrangements in the event of an employee's death during their employment.
  • Click Submit Change for your record to be updated. Changes will not be saved unless this final step is completed.

Even if nothing has changed, it’s important to review your details and make sure they’re up to date. It only takes a few minutes, but it could make a big difference.

Note for Managers 

Please ask all colleagues to complete their information by Friday, 31 July. 

Substantive colleagues

All substantive (individuals on permanent/fixed-term contracts) colleagues are asked to log into MyView and review their Emergency Contact, Next of Kin, and Death in Service beneficiary details to ensure the information is accurate and up to date.

Non-substantive colleagues

Non-substantive colleagues (Casual staff, Graduate Teaching Assistants, and Honorary colleagues) only need to provide or update their Emergency Contact details in MyView. They do not need to complete or update Next of Kin or Death in Service information.
