This month on Purple Place, we’re focusing on sustainable travel options. Go green and save with these environmentally friendly means of transport which are kind to you and the planet.

Cycle to Work

With better weather on the way, why not explore our Cycle to Work scheme? Colleagues can purchase a brand-new bike, clothing and accessories up to the value of £5000 (subject to affordability). You can apply for this scheme from day one of employment with the university and spread the payment across your salary to save on tax and NI. Did you know that University of Manchester employees are automatically enrolled into the Serious Cycle Scheme? This means that you, your family and friends will be provided with up to £150,000 of cover for legal costs should you be involved in a road traffic accident. Electric Vehicle Scheme

Not within cycling distance? Consider our Electric Vehicle scheme which provides access to a wide range of both brand-new and pre-loved fully electric cars (subject to eligibility). Choose a term length that suits you and pay directly via your salary each month to make substantial savings on tax and national insurance. Your single monthly payment includes insurance, maintenance, tyres, MOT, roadside assistance and more!

Active Commuter Fair – Thursday 23 April, Brunswick Park

The Active Commuter Community will be hosting their first event on 23 April. Head over to find out how you can save money, travel more sustainably, and boost your wellbeing at the same time. Chat to the Bee Network about travel savings, enjoy a free physio or yoga session, get your bike repaired for free, and learn more about the Cycle to Work scheme.

Colleague Benefits Pop-Up – Thursday 14 May, University Place

We are hosting the University’s first Colleague Benefits Pop-Up. Come down between 10.00am - 2.00pm to explore your benefits, bag some freebies and enter competitions for the chance to win gift cards and prizes.
