ONLINE: Imagining a Gender-Equal World: International Symposium
05 Jan 2026
Join us in marking the International Day of Women and Girls in Science
Join us for a free, international online symposium celebrating the International Day of Women and Girls in Science and advancing Sustainable Development Goal 5: Gender Equality.
Bringing together students, staff, and partners from five countries, the symposium will explore how international collaboration can support gender equality and improve opportunities for women and girls in STEM. Through keynote contributions, international case studies, and interactive workshops, participants will engage with current challenges, share experiences, and co-develop practical ideas for change across higher education and research.
When: Wednesday 11 February, 09:30–13:15 (GMT)
To note; you can sign up for individual workshops in advance, and don’t need to attend the entire symposium.
Workshop themes
- From Access to Opportunity: Advancing Education and Science for Women and Girls
- Health Equity for Women: Addressing Inequalities through Research, Policy, and Practice
- Challenging Discrimination and Violence: Creating Safer, More Inclusive Institutions
- Advocacy and Allyship in Action: Supporting Gender Equality in Higher Education and STEM
The symposium takes an interdisciplinary and intersectional approach and is open to students, academic staff, professional services staff, and international partners across higher education. It is co-led by the Going Global Gender Equality Project partners in Manchester and Kenya and is funded by the British Council (GEP2024-013) and the University of Manchester.
