Updated Data Protection Policy

Our data protection policy now includes AI, Software as a Service and Social Media

We have updated our Data Protection Policy to comply with current regulations and new guidelines. Like other University policies this document is reviewed regularly and to reflect significant changes.

What do I need to do?

We encourage all colleagues to familiarise themselves with the updated policy and guidance.

Why?

Ensuring compliance with the policy is essential for protecting personal data of students, colleagues, and stakeholders.

By adhering to the Data Protection Act we can ensure we maintain high standards of data protection and privacy. 

What are the key changes?

Inclusion of AI, SAAS, and Social Media: The updated policy now includes references to Software as a Service (SAAS), social media, and Artificial Intelligence (AI).

Reference to our University AI Guidelines: The policy now references our University AI guidelines. This inclusion ensures that our use of technologies aligns with our AI standards and ethical considerations. 

Compliance Tools are now included: The policy now outlines the various tools and methods we use to ensure compliance, including: 

  • Privacy Notices 
  • Data Protection Impact Assessments 
  • Data Management Plans 
  • Research Ethics Committee approvals 
  • Data Protection clauses in contracts with suppliers
