Adam Rutherford in conversation with David Olusoga OBE
11 Feb 2025
Monday, 10 March

Join David Olusoga, Professor of Public History, in conversation with bestselling author, geneticist and presenter, Dr Adam Rutherford, as they navigate human history, evolution, migration and how Empire continues to shape life in Britain today.
Genetics is a subject with a long past, but a short history. Modern genetics has completely dismantled the biological concept of race and can - and should - be used as a weapon to combat bigotry, racism and prejudice. Together Olusoga and Rutherford will explore what our genes now tell us about human history and what history tells us about our genes.
The event will be introduced by Professor Sadiah Qureshi. Professor Qureshi took up a Chair in Modern British History at the University of Manchester in 2023. As a historian of race, science, and empire, she researches how racialised knowledge is produced, circulated, and mobilised in the modern world to create hierarchies of value for all life on earth.
Creative Manchester is an interdisciplinary research platform based at The University of Manchester. This event is taking place at the Martin Harris Centre on Monday 10 March 2025, 7:15 – 9pm.
