Professor April McMahon to be next Treasurer at British Academy

Professor April McMahon will become the next Treasurer at the British Academy, alongside her role at our University.

April, who is currently Vice-President for Teaching, Learning and Students, will formally take up the position in July 2024 as one of eight Vice-President roles.

Speaking about the new appointment, April said: “I am honoured to be appointed to this role in the British Academy, and am very much looking forward to starting next summer.”

Previously, April has held academic and leadership roles at the universities of Cambridge, Sheffield, Edinburgh, Aberystwyth and Kent.

The British Academy was established by Royal Charter in 1902 and is the UK national academy for humanities and social sciences. The Academy is a fellowship of outstanding scholars and distinguished researchers engaged in humanities and social sciences. The Academy also exists to fund and support research, working for the benefit of the public.
