Get On Board with TfGM's new low bus fares

25 Aug 2022

From 4 September, a single bus journey will be no more than £2 for an adult and £1 for a child

Simple and clear low bus fares will be available in Greater Manchester from Sunday, 4 September, making it easier for people to get around the city-region.

The new fares are being introduced 12 months ahead of the launch of the first franchised bus services in Greater Manchester in September 2023, marking an important milestone in the delivery of the Bee Network, Transport for Greater Manchester's (TfGM) vision for a fully-integrated transport system.

The introduction of simple and clear low bus fares is intended to support people in Greater Manchester with the increased cost of living.

Bus ticket prices

  • Adults will pay no more than £2 for a single bus journey, while a £5 one day AnyBus Adult travelcard will cover unlimited bus travel within the ten boroughs of Greater Manchester until 3.59am the following day.
  • Children aged five to 16 will pay no more than £1 for any single bus journey. The one day AnyBus Junior travelcard will cover unlimited bus travel within Greater Manchester for just £2.50 a day.
  • Children under the age of five will continue to travel on buses for free.
  • The capped fares only apply to singles and day tickets. Season tickets (e.g. weekly, monthly) are still available.

What services can I use?

  • The £2/£1 single fare covers a single journey that starts and ends within Greater Manchester. This means any single journey within the ten boroughs in Greater Manchester - Bolton, Bury, Manchester, Oldham, Rochdale, Salford, Stockport, Tameside, Trafford and Wigan. The ticket is only valid for a single bus journey and not valid for transfer between two buses.
  • The One day AnyBus travelcard can be used on any bus services within the System One boundary, which extends outside of Greater Manchester in some locations. View map for details.

Paying for your ticket

  • Customers can pay for their journey in the usual way using cash or contactless (if available) by asking the driver for a single ticket to their destination, or a one day AnyBus travelcard.
