Unplanned Network outage - Thursday 4 August

04 Aug 2022

On Thursday 4 August at approximately 11.25am there was a campus wide network outage affecting connectivity across campus and to key services.

This affected all services connected to the campus network, including (but was not limited to) Wi-Fi and wired network, IT login, GlobalProtect VPN, Duo, University websites, My Manchester, remote access and more.

Services started to restore at approximately 12.41pm and are currently being monitored closely by IT Services and network partners.

We understand what happened and what we need to do to prevent it from happening again.

We fully recognise the impact this caused for our staff and students, and thank everyone for bearing with us while we resolved the issue.

The outage affected University websites and StaffNet so updates were given primarily via the IT Services Twitter account. A summary of these are posted below for information, and further updates will be added if required.

Important note: this evening's planned network maintenance is still going ahead as planned.
