WATCH: Our support for researchers in a changing world

27 Jun 2022

Nalin Thakkar and Dave Polya discuss our changing world and how our research community will be fully supported to continue their vital work while mitigating new risks

University of Manchester

We are living through a time of major upheaval and significant global challenges.

The world and international relations have changed quite dramatically over the past decade with Brexit, the Covid pandemic and increased political, economic and military conflicts.

Our University is working hard to support colleagues facing these changes.

This includes our research community, whose vital work and security may be affected by our changing world.

Professor Nalin Thakkar, Vice President for Social Responsibility and Chair of Research Compliance Committee and Research Relationships Oversight Group, and Professor Dave Polya, Associate Dean for Internationalisation for our Faculty of Science and Engineering, have discussed how global changes are affecting research security.

You can watch their discussion, which goes on to explain how our University is supporting colleagues, here:

Nalin explains: “Our approach to international engagement has always been academically driven, allowing collaborations to develop wherever they are required, but we are facing a complex international environment and therefore new and changing potential risks.

“Our University is here to support our research community as they do their vital work to address global challenges. We will help you develop your international relationships safely and support your academic freedom.”
