Take part in our summer graduation celebrations

17 Jun 2022

Graduation is a huge team effort and relies on numerous colleagues to come together, delivering a truly memorable experience

Summer graduation

We encourage as many of our University community to get involved - this year's summer graduation will take place from Monday, 11 July until Friday, 22 July.

Colleagues can find out more information on this year’s ceremonies on the graduation website.

Join the academic procession

All colleagues (academic and Professional Services) who wish to attend graduation ceremonies can join the academic procession.

Have a look at the schedule of ceremonies to choose the ceremony for the programme(s) of your choice, and then register to join the academic procession. Please register your attendance and order your gown by Friday, 24 June 2022. If you are providing your own gown, you still need to register through Enet.

If you need to change your attendance or any of your details you can do this at any time before the gown hire deadline by logging in to Enet.

Please note: all presenters and tailored speakers also need to register their attendance and order gowns as appropriate.

Extra ceremonies on Saturday, 16 July

Five extra ceremonies will take place on Saturday, 16 July for graduates from the classes of 2020 and 2021 who could not attend our catch-up ceremonies in March and April due to restrictions around visas, COVID-19 or annual leave.

These ceremonies are strictly invite-only for graduates who had previously registered their interest in them – no extra places will be made available. The ceremonies will take place on 10am, 12 noon, 2pm, 4pm and 6pm.

We are looking for staff to volunteer in a number of roles to help these ceremonies run smoothly:

  • Whitworth Hall volunteers: responsible for acknowledging that the ceremony is to begin by closing the entrance doors, speaking to the first two rows to advise of the process, other graduands will follow. Start the ceremony and then direct students back to their seats.
  • Row feeding volunteers: responsible for checking that the graduands line up prior to going on stage in accordance to the mark up sheet and ensure that any late arrivals are added in the correct order.
  • Presenter volunteers: responsible for ensuring that the next graduand to go up onto the stage is the name that is called out by the presenter in accordance to the mark up sheet (list of graduates). If any anomalies arise then it is their role to advise the presenter of any issues.

All colleagues (academic and professional services) can also join the academic procession for these extra ceremonies.

If you would like to volunteer for one of these roles or join the procession, please contact alumnievents@manchester.ac.uk with the subject line – ‘Saturday graduation procession’ and the times that you are available.
