Student 2-factor authentication during online exams

12 May 2022

Information for staff involved in online exams taking place between 23 May and 10 June 2022.

As you may be aware, IT Services introduced 2-factor authentication from Duo for students when accessing Microsoft 365 and Blackboard, earlier this year.

Online exams taking place on campus in PC clusters will generally not require students to use Duo to log in to Blackboard, for exams taking place between 23 May and 10 June 2022. Duo will still be required outside of these locations, and to access Microsoft 365 services including University email.

Students taking part in exams off-campus will still need to use Duo to log in to Blackboard, so IT Services are setting up a fast-track process to deal with any requests from students who may not have their phone or other authentication device with them, for example if their phone is broken or they have not yet registered a new device.

Information about this will be available on the IT help and support webpage before the start of the exam period.

Please note there will be no changes to how staff and postgraduate researchers use 2-factor authentication from Duo.
