University retains HR Excellence in Research Award

24 Nov 2021

The HR Excellence in Research Award was confirmed following a review process

The University has successfully retained the HR Excellence in Research Award after a review of support for the professional and career development of its research staff. The University has now held the award for ten years demonstrating our ongoing commitment to supporting and developing researchers and our implementation of the Researcher Development Concordat.

The HR Excellence in Research Award was confirmed following a review process, which required the University to submit evidence of how the principles of the Concordat have been met and to outline the strategy and action plan for continued improvement over the next two years. The University’s forward looking ambitious action plan, developed in partnership with research staff, focuses on creating a research environment and culture in which research staff and those that manage them are supported and recognised.

Professor Melissa Westwood, Associate Vice-President Research and Chair of the Research Staff Strategy Group, said: "I am delighted that our commitment to supporting research staff to develop and thrive has been recognised. I look forward to working with research staff, PIs and the Research Staff Strategy Group to implement our action plan and ensuring that the significant contribution our research staff make to the University’s goals and strategy is recognised and valued."
