UCU industrial action

06 Nov 2019

Message from Karen Heaton

Whitworth building

Following the ballot results last week, we have been informed by the University and College Union (UCU) of the details of their planned industrial action:

  • Strike action 25-29 November 2019
  • Strike action 2-4 December 2019
  • Continuous action short of a strike from 25 November 2019

This is regrettable and we had hoped it could have been avoided. That said, we know that pay and pensions are important to our staff and we fully recognise the right of UCU members to take industrial action. However we will also seek to minimise disruption, especially to our students.

We are advising students to work on the basis that their studies will continue as normal unless they are told otherwise. This means that they should attend scheduled teaching, complete and submit assessments by the relevant deadlines, and continue to plan for any examinations. The University will not benefit from any pay which is deducted and will instead use it of for the benefit of our students.

Information for staff and students will be made available and we will provide you with regular updates.

Kind regards

Karen Heaton
