11 Jun 2019

Next year's early May bank holiday will be moved back to Friday, 8 May to coincide with the 75th anniversary of VE Day

May Day, the first bank holiday in May, is traditionally held on a Monday. Next year, 2020, it will fall on Friday, 8 May. This holiday will form part of a three-day weekend of events to commemorate VE Day, the day towards the end of World War Two when fighting came to an end in Europe.
