Updated: Essential out-of-hours work to improve the University network

04 Sep 2025

Work will now take place 8am to Midday Saturday, 6 September, 2025

It is not anticipated that colleagues and students will experience disruption during this time, but should be aware that this will be an “at risk” period where, networks managed by the University may be impacted and services including (but not limited to) WiFi and wired networks, IT login, GlobalProtect VPN, Duo and some additional University sites and services could be temporarily disrupted.

What’s happening?

Saturday, 6 September: from 8am - midday, colleagues and students should be prepared for the “at risk” period. While we do not expect to see service disruption, work of this type does come with associated risk. An ITS support team will be on site to remediate any issues should they occur.

Why are we doing this?

This period of work will retire legacy infrastructure resulting in firmed-up cyber security, fewer outages, and a more responsive network that is future-proofed for evolving business demands.

If you experience any network-related issues after the work has taken place, please raise a ticket with the IT Support Centre. Or call the 24/7 Support Desk on 0161 306 5544
