WATCH: A message from Professor Nalin Thakkar on Manchester Pride

25 Aug 2020

Vice-President for Social Responsibility Professor Nalin Thakkar has recorded a message as we celebrate Manchester Pride

Pride 2020

In his message recorded on Zoom, Professor Nalin Thakkar (he/him) encouraged everyone to take part in the activities being organised by ALLOUT, and to keep in touch with peers and colleagues. Although the celebrations will be somewhat different this year, there is still plenty you can get involved with - find out more.

Karen Heaton, Director of Human Resources, also gave this message:

"Over the past few years we have seen an increase in both bi and transphobia.  Recently you may have seen some worrying reports in the press that the government may be slowing progress on trans rights in England and Wales, including rumours of regressive action that would see trans people further marginalised in society.  At the University we want to ensure that our bi, trans and non-binary communities feel safe, welcomed and well represented.

"We’re continuing to do this with refreshed guidance, an increase in communications on how to report and instances of bi and trans phobia and ensuring we have positive awareness raising events throughout the year.  Pride is normally a time for celebration and we’ll be doing that the best we can and I encourage you all to take part however you can!"
