16 Jul 2020

All staff required to undertake mandatory training

All staff required to undertake mandatory training

New online Information Security and Data Protection training is now available for all staff to complete.

This mandatory training introduces important new cyber security content and refreshes people’s understanding of Data Protection and Freedom of Information law.

How do I access the course?

The online training is hosted by a company called Metacompliance. For details of how to access the course please visit Information Governance Office Training and Support

Does everyone need to do this training?

For the majority of employees, their two year training accreditation has now expired; the Information Governance Office will be emailing those individuals directly, asking them to complete the training as soon as possible. However, regardless of when you did the previous course you must complete the new one by 31 December 2020.

Why do I need to do this training?

We are all responsible for protecting personal data that individuals have entrusted to the University and information that’s confidential in nature. Failure to do so can result in significant harm and distress to the individuals whose data we hold, lead to reputational damage to the University and regulatory fines.

There is an ever-present risk that any one of us could become the victim of a cyber-attack. There are many simple but important steps outlined in the training that you can take to help keep your information, and University systems, safe and secure.
