Colleague Engagement Survey
Our Colleague Engagement Survey is an important way for all colleagues to share how engaged they feel in the work they do, what they value most about working here and where things could, and should, be better.
The survey, which runs annually, is your opportunity to be totally open and honest and tell us what’s working and what isn’t.
Your responses are invaluable and will help us deliver on our strategy ambitions to 2035, as well as a range of local actions, all contributing towards making our University a better place to work for all.
This year, the survey will launch on Tuesday 10 March and run until Tuesday 31 March.
We really want to hear what you think – what’s going well and what you feel isn’t working so we know what we need to do together to create the kind of supportive and empowering culture where we can all thrive and do our best work.
Everything you tell us in this survey is completely confidential. Your individual responses won’t be shared with us, but with an independent organisation called People Insight who are running the survey for us.
If you have any concerns about this either before, or after sharing your views, you can contact People Insight directly via this email address support@peopleinsight.co.uk
Research colleagues
This year, Research colleagues are also asked to complete some additional questions which will help us develop our action plan for the Concordat to Support the Career Development of Researchers.
Thank you for taking part, we genuinely appreciate you taking time to share your views.
Accessing the survey
- You will receive an email from People Insight <survey-invite@peopleinsight.co.uk> on Tuesday, 10 March. The emails are being sent by People Insight in batches starting at 00:01 on Tuesday, 10 March, with the last batch arriving around 17:00 on the same date. Managers are encouraged to ensure colleagues have time during their working hours to complete the survey.
- You can access the survey directly from your email invitation (you will receive weekly reminders until you submit the survey) or you can access the survey via a link on StaffNet – you will need to put in your Employee ID number (on your ID card) to access the survey this way. This is to verify you are eligible to take part in the survey.
- Local plans are in place for colleagues who do not have access to a computer during their working day. These plans typically involve providing access to an iPad to complete the survey.
- In addition, we will be providing a small number of posters and cards featuring a QR code for these areas so that colleagues can scan the code using any smart device to access the survey online.
- The survey doesn’t have to be completed in one sitting – you can start it and come back to it at a later stage, your responses will be saved but you will continue to get reminders until you submit it.
Prize Draw
- Everyone who completes the survey will have the option to be entered into a series of prize draws taking place every Tuesday and Friday whilst the survey is live where you could win £100 of Love2Shop vouchers.
- As soon as you’ve completed your survey you’ll start being entered into our prize draw – so the sooner you take part the more chances you have of winning!
- People Insight will pick winners at random. You will be informed if you are a winner by Rachael McGraw, Head of Colleague Experience at the University.

We’ve used your feedback from the 2025 survey to shape our Manchester 2035 strategy and more than 400 local and University-wide actions are underway – you can find out more via our news feed.
We’ll also be sharing short video clips under the key themes from 2025 to demonstrate the types of actions taking place across the University. These will be shared on the Your Voice Matters hub and on StaffNet.
We have been running Colleague Engagement Surveys (previously known as Staff Survey) for a number of years. By completing these surveys, you’ll ensure we have a clear picture of what it’s like to work here. Your feedback means that we can put together action plans to make a real difference and make positive changes. In addition to these surveys, we also have lots of other ways that colleagues can feedback or ask questions, and all of this is used to make positive change.
