Updated 2026 Degree Regulations now approved and published
25 Feb 2026
We’re pleased to share that the updated Undergraduate (UG) and Postgraduate Taught (PGT) Degree Regulations, which will come into effect from 1 September 2026, have now been formally approved and published online.
These revised regulations are the result of extensive consultation across the University. They introduce a clearer, more coherent structure designed to support both colleagues and students in understanding academic requirements.
New regulations now available
-
Undergraduate Degree Regulations (2026)
For students registering from September 2026 (Updated October 2025, v3.0) -
Postgraduate Taught Degree Regulations (2026)
For students registering from September 2026 (Version 4.0)
Links to both sets of regulations are available on the University website.
Who the changes affect
These updated regulations apply only to students who begin their studies on or after 1 September 2026.
There is no requirement for programmes to amend regulations during a student’s current programme of study, so existing students will continue on the regulations in place at the time they enrolled.
Faculty of Humanities corrective update
As part of the review, it was identified that some existing practice within the Faculty of Humanities is not fully aligned with the Title of Taught Awards section of the regulations. A corrective amendment is already underway, and colleagues will be updated once this is complete.
Supporting guidance
Work has now begun on the updated Guide to the Taught Degree Regulations, which will offer practical explanations, examples and helpful clarification for staff. This guide will be available ahead of implementation in September 2026.
To support the transition, colleagues can also access a paragraph‑mapping document, which shows where familiar clauses from earlier versions now sit within the revised structure.
Summary of major updates
For an overview of the consultation process and the key changes introduced in the new regulations, the ‘You Said, We Did’ report provides a helpful summary of the feedback received and how it shaped the final versions.
Category B consultation now open
The 2025/26 policy consultation is now live. Four documents are being reviewed under the theme of Student Voice and Rights as Consumers. These documents fall under Category B, meaning only minor amendments are anticipated, with no substantial shifts to current practice expected.
Colleagues are encouraged to review the documents and share their feedback as part of this year’s consultation process
