Canvas successful go-live – One month in
30 Oct 2025
Thanks to all your help and contributions, we’ve experienced a smooth ‘go-live’ of Canvas across the University this month. Any post-launch issues have been relatively small and quickly resolved in collaboration with our eLearning and technical teams.
This is an outstanding achievement and early feedback from students and colleagues has been positive overall.
Blackboard has now been decommissioned
Blackboard is no longer available for colleagues and students and final decommissioning taking place on Friday 31 October.
Colleagues have been supported to make alternative arrangements with outstanding activity on Blackboard and historical data can be obtained through the Canvas Help Menu.
Data from Blackboard
The last 3 years of legacy course units have been migrated from Blackboard to Canvas, with all teaching materials available to students and colleagues in these migrated units.
Assessment submissions and feedback in these legacy courses are not available in Canvas. Copies of previous submissions and feedback can be requested from the Central Digital Learning team. Details can be found by clicking this link.
How are colleagues adjusting to Canvas?
Some colleagues who have been using Canvas at the University have shared their feedback to support others in adjusting to the change on our Canvas microsite.
What’s coming next?
Whilst we celebrate a successful launch, there is still more to do to embed Canvas into the digital ecosystem of the University.
We are continuing to collaborate across the Faculties and University areas to support students in getting the best experience, and to prepare and support colleagues for future activity into Semester 2 and beyond.
Training and support are always available from your local eLearning teams, if required.
