About Diwali

Diwali, the Festival of Lights, is a five day festival with Diwali this year falling on Sunday 8 November 2026, and is celebrated by millions around the world and across Dharmic faiths. It symbolises the triumph of light over darkness and good over evil.

For Hindus, it marks the return of Rama and Sita from exile, and honours Lakshmi, the goddess of prosperity. Sikhs observe Bandi Chhor Divas, commemorating Guru Hargobind Ji’s release from imprisonment. Jains celebrate the enlightenment of Lord Mahavira, and some Buddhists mark the occasion as a time for reflection and renewal.
