Drive less this October

05 Oct 2026

We're organising events, discounts, challenges, and practical resources to help you drive less this October.

This October, we’re bringing together events, discounts, challenges and practical resources to help colleagues find ways to use their cars less. Each week, we’re showcasing a different way to travel to work - with lots of opportunities to try something new, whether you want to make a big change or simply swap one or two car journeys.

Themes for each week

Week 1: Cycling

This week, we’re putting cycling in the spotlight! Whether you’re already a regular cyclist or haven’t been on a bike in years, there are plenty of ways to make cycling part of your journey to campus.

Cycling can be a great way to build some exercise into your day, avoid traffic and make your commute a little more enjoyable - while also helping to reduce carbon emissions and create a healthier, cleaner environment. And you don't have to cycle every day to make a difference.

Week 2: Walk, wheel, or run

This week, we’re getting moving! Walking, wheeling and running are simple ways to build more movement into your day, support your physical and mental wellbeing and reduce the environmental impact of your journey.

Whether you prefer a leisurely stroll, a speedy run or travelling by wheelchair, every journey made without a car can help you feel better and help create a healthier, cleaner campus.

Week 3: Give public transport a go

This week, we’re putting public transport in the spotlight! Whether you’re a regular bus or train traveller or usually rely on your car, there are plenty of ways to make public transport part of your journey to campus.

Taking the bus or train can help you avoid traffic, take the stress out of driving and give you time to catch up on emails, listen to a podcast or simply relax. It can also help reduce congestion and carbon emissions - and you don't have to leave the car at home every day to make a difference.

Week 4: Carpool - share the journey

We understand not everyone can leave the car at home - but could you avoid driving alone? This week, we’re putting carpooling in the spotlight and looking at ways our colleagues can share their journey to campus.

Sharing a journey can help cut the number of cars on the road, reduce congestion and carbon emissions, and save you money on travel costs. It can also make the commute a little more sociable - and you only need to share one journey to make a difference.
