The free 41 bus service is back!

We're delighted to announce that, thanks to our partnership with Transport for Greater Manchester (TfGM), the free 41 bus is returning from Monday 3rd August for one-year.

Last year, we trialled a free bus service from Manchester Victoria Station to campus that operated alongside our existing free service from Manchester Piccadilly. Following the strong uptake and fantastic response from colleagues asking for it to continue, we've listened - and we're bringing it back for the next year. 

Travel between Manchester Victoria and campus – for free

The 41 bus can be used for free between these stops.

  • Manchester Victoria → Campus
    Catch the bus from Corporation Street (Bus Stop MANDJMTP)
  • Campus → Manchester Victoria
    Catch the bus from outside the Students' Union (Bus Stop MANGTMJA)

The offer is available to

  • All University of Manchester students
  • All University of Manchester colleagues
  • All Students' Union colleagues

Simply show your University of Manchester or Student Union Colleague ID to the driver when you board.

Why are we doing this?

As part of our sustainable travel plan, we're committed to making it easier and more efficient to travel to campus.

Every journey a colleague switches from a petrol or diesel car to public transport, walking, wheeling, or cycling, helps to reduce our carbon emissions, improve the local air quality, and support our sustainability commitments.

In our conversations with colleagues and students across the University, cost of living continues to come up as an issue affecting many of you. That's why, alongside the existing free 147 bus between Manchester Piccadilly and campus, we're pleased to be bringing back the free 41 bus and helping you save up to £4 a day on a return journey.

Help us keep it

The free 41 bus is funded as a one-year trial. If enough people use it, we'll have a much stronger case for extending the scheme beyond the first year.
