New tool sheds light on Export Controls

05 May 2026

Our new Export Control Dashboard helps you plan collaborations with confidence and contributes directly to the University’s Manchester 2035 strategy – particularly the Digital inside and out leap.

Export Controls can often feel unclear or hard to plan around—especially when working with international partners. Our new Export Control Dashboard aims to change that by giving all colleagues simple, transparent insight into typical timelines for export checks and licence decisions.

Developed collaboratively by the Regulatory Compliance Team, and the Secure Research Environment project team, the dashboard brings real case data into one place using Microsoft Power BI. It shows how many cases we receive, how long internal checks usually take, and the typical time taken for government licence decisions.

This means you can now factor these timelines into your planning from the start—reducing delays, aligning compliance tasks to your project milestones, and giving you clearer expectations from day one.

Access to the dashboard will be granted to colleagues who have completed the required HEECA (HERSA) Export Control training.

This work contributes directly to the University’s Manchester 2035 strategy—particularly the Digital inside and out leap, which focuses on creating people led digital environments that support better decision-making and more efficient ways of working.
