Our graduates shaping change in Manchester and beyond

08 Jan 2026

Our graduates leave with more than a degree. Through learning, service and ambition, they go on to make a positive difference in communities locally and globally.

Molly Pheasy

Each year around 19,000 students graduate from our University. Many of these students have made significant positive contributions to society during their studies; through activities such as volunteering, environmental stewardship, public engagement and active involvement with local organisations. Many of our graduates then go on to careers that make a meaningful impact in areas such as healthcare, education, and environmental sustainability. Through their work they support public services, drive innovation, and strengthen communities both locally and globally. Their achievements are a powerful testament to our enduring mission to make a difference.

During our winter graduation celebrations, we spoke to graduating students about the difference they have made during their time at our University, what inspired them along the way, and how they hope to create a positive impact after graduation.

Social responsibility and civic impact have been part of our University’s purpose since its foundation. Today, this commitment is reflected in the choices our graduates make about where and how they work, and in the ways they apply their learning beyond academia.

These winter graduation films offer a snapshot of how this year’s graduates are thinking about their next steps and the contributions they hope to make.

Watch these short films to find out more about:

  • Molly Pheasey, International Disaster Management graduate from the Faculty of Humanities
  • Glory Frank Onyehara, Adult Nursing graduate from the Faculty of Biology, Medicine and Health
  • Rosie Holmes, Pollution and Environmental Control graduate from the Faculty of Science and Engineering

Together, their reflections highlight the ambition, creativity and social commitment that define our student community.
