Colleague Engagement Survey results
04 Jun 2025
More than 6,000 colleagues took part in the Colleague Engagement Survey ‘Your Voice Matters’ - that’s 51% of eligible colleagues.

The overall engagement score for the University is 79% - an improvement on our 2022 score of 71%. It’s 5% higher than the higher education norm and 3% higher than the Russell Group norm provided by our survey partner People Insight.
Executive Director of People Ele Morrissey said: “These results give us a great insight into what it’s like to work here and show we have a lot to be proud of. The sense of belonging and purpose our people feel is very clear and puts us in a great position as we get ready to launch our Manchester 2035 strategy, thank you to everyone for sharing your views!
“There are some important aspects of the people experience that we need to address together like the way change is carried out here at Manchester, the role and responsibilities of leaders and developing clear career pathways for colleagues.
“We will be digging deeper into our results around bullying, harassment which increased from 8% to 11% between 2022 and 2025 and discrimination which increased from 8% to 10%. We know these are issues we all need to work together to address.”
Overview of results
Survey reports for each part of the University are on the Your Voice Matters hub as well as an infographic of key highlights.
Communicating results
Local leaders are expected to share more information with their teams about local results and next steps for taking action.
Action themes and next steps
The survey findings will help to shape the Manchester 2035 strategy as well as our People and EDI delivery plans. A small number of University-level themes for action will be agreed and these will be shared with you shortly.
Leaders will also work with their People Partners to develop local actions.
