Social Justice Photography Competition 2019 winners announced

The winners of the Social Justice Photography Competition were announced at a recent event to celebrate Volunteering and Social Justice
The event took place in the Whitworth Hall and President and Vice Chancellor Professor Nancy Rothwell presented the prizes.
The Social Justice Photography Competition asks students to submit a photo and caption highlighting an issue of social justice that matters to them.
A shortlist of 5 photos went to a public vote - 3,041 students voted on Instagram, 3,226 voted on Facebook and 120 people voted in person at the photo exhibition. After a week, 6,387 votes were collected - over twice as many as last year.
The Grand Prize of £400 was awarded to Paul Famutimi-Dickson from the School of Mechanical, Aerospace and Civil Engineering for his photo ‘Shades’ (shown above).

- Second Place - £200 – ‘Privilege Through Sacrifice’ by Rabi Nandhan, School of Mechanical, Aerospace and Civil Engineering
- Third Place - £100 – ‘Demands’ by Charlie Bird, School of Social Sciences
- Runner Up – ‘Rely On Me’ by Toma-Codrin Vinereanu, School of Computer Science
- Runner Up – ‘Origin’ by Wanting Ge, School of Social Sciences

The competition was part of the promotion for the Social Justice Challenge, an online activity that forms part of the Ethical Grand Challenges programme and a key part of Stellify.
