Changes to P: drives will bring you more storage capacity soon

22 Oct 2012

Renewal of the Storage Area Network (SAN) within IT services will increase all users’ P: drive space to 2GB.

Most things will be unaffected by this change, but access to P: drives will be affected during the changeover process.

The changeover will be starting from early November, with groups of users being moved across in ‘blocks’.  This will ensure that an entire Faculty is not without P: drive access at the same time.  (You will be advised in a further email on which specific date your P: drive will be moved across.)

During the changeover, you will be unable to access your P: drive for a few hours.  You should save anything that you are working on and fully log out of your P: drive before the work commences, to avoid any potential data loss (or other effects, similar to when a network connection is suddenly lost).

After the changeover, users on University PC’s will get their mapping to P: drive changed to the new service automatically.  Users running unmanaged desktops including PC, Linux, Mac and home machines will need to re-establish their connection to the P: drive.  Shortcuts to P: drive may also have been created, if so these shortcuts will need to be re-created after the changeover, if still required.   (Details of how to do this will be supplied via email, on completion of each P: drive migration).
