Celebrated for her irony and daring explorations of sexual love, Wang Anyi has penned many acclaimed novels, including The Song of Everlasting Sorrow. Shortlisted for the 2011 Booker International Prize, it is a beautifully written epic tracing the trials and tribulations of a former Shanghai beauty pageant winner from the 1940s to the present day.

She is currently the chairperson of the Shanghai Writers’ Association and was co-author of the screenplay of Chen Kaige’s film Temptress Moon.
