Foundation Day celebrations

Apply for tickets for the Foundation Lecture and Honorary Degree ceremony

Staff are being invited to apply for tickets to this year’s Foundation Lecture and Honorary Degree ceremony, which will be held on Wednesday 24 October.

Former barrister and TV personality, Clive Anderson, will be giving the Foundation Lecture which is entitled: “Is it time to have TV cameras in court?”

Tickets are also available for the Honorary Degree ceremony which follows the Lecture, which this year sees degrees being conferred upon:

  • Sir Fazle Hasan Abed – Founder and Chairperson of BRAC, a development organisation dedicated to alleviating poverty
  • Sir Philip Craven – President of the International Paralympic AssociationProfessor Peter Higgs – physicist after whom the Higgs boson is named – the most sought after particle in modern physics
  • Mick Hucknall – singer songwriter and former lead singer of Simply Red
  • Dame Kathleen Ollerenshaw – mathematician and politician, former employee of our University and Lord Mayor of Manchester (1975-76)
  • John Timpson – businessman and owner of the Timpson retail business

The arrangements for both events are as follows:

  • Foundation Lecture Drinks Reception:      4.00pm        University Place
  • Foundation Lecture:                             4.30 pm       University Place
  • Lecture ends:                                     5.45pm
  • Honorary Degree Ceremony:                   6.15pm        Whitworth Hall

As there are a limited number of tickets available, they will be allocated on a first come first served basis. If your application has been successful, you will be informed as soon as possible.
